ACL 2014 Forecast

As you may know, the final day of this year’s Austin City Limits music festival was cancelled due to flash flooding. Neither the festival organizers, the bands, nor their fans were happy to see this happen. But before you hang ACL out to dry (no pun intended), I’ve got something that should buoy (no pun intended) your spirits: the leaked (no pun intended) lineup for ACL 2014.

Clearly, this is a joke. The cancellation was such big news in Austin that I couldn’t afford to not mention it, and I knew that GSD&M’s good friends at Austin City Limits would survive some gentle ribbing from a smartass copywriter. Waking up Sunday morning to photos of the very flooded venue, nobody could really be surprised that the event had to be cancelled. Zilker Park may as well have been Town Lake. Sure, it was a bummer, but there was really no other option. But try as Mother Nature might to send us all to our respective rooms without dessert, nobody was having it. Bands and organizers scrambled to quickly set up free shows all over town for as many of Sunday’s scheduled performers as possible. It was ‘the show must go on’ incarnate, and it made a lot of very wet people very happy.

I can’t wait to see the real lineup for next year, but in the meantime I’ve put together the following playlist of some of my favorite tracks that I bobbed, danced and sang along with, rain and shine, at this year’s festival.
