There was music everywhere. We had over 50 GSD&Mers running around taking it all in and I think it’s safe to say not one person did it the same way. It’s hard to pinpoint our top musical moments. But we are going to try. Below is a list of highlights from some of our resident music buffs and check out more tracks on Spotify here.
Danielle Zubriski/Electric Wire Hustle: This was a surprise find, as I wandered into the Black Swan searching only for refreshments with friends. Before long the entire bar was moving to EWH’s hard-to-define mix of electronica, hip hop and soul.
Choice track: They Don’t Want
Reagan Ward/Tanlines: Seeing Tanlines perform tracks off their soon-to-be released album and bobbing along with other sweaty, tired people at The ND.
Choice track: Brothers
Brent Holt/Bruce Springsteen: Clarence Clemons’ son played sax during the show but when Bruce sings the part “when the change was made uptown and the big man joined the band”, he stopped the song and had the entire crowd cheering in honor of Clarence.
Choice track: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
Abby Hinojosa/Fanfarlo: These guys performed at probably one of the best sounding venues at SXSW and had an incredible show at Club De Ville. I forgot about my exhaustion during the performance and was blown away by their musicianship.
Choice track: Replicate
Adele Hazan/Pickwick: Listening to their album before didn’t properly prepare me for the Pickwick show. They captivated the crowds at Antone’s on Friday night with their soulful, Seattle sound.
Choice track: Hacienda Motel
Elizabeth Thompson/Railroad Revival: I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the week than an old favorite “Wagon Wheel” sung by members of Old Crow Medicine Show with Edward Sharpe and Mumford Sons looking up the lyrics on their iPhones.
Choice track: Wagon Wheel
Can we do it all again? Pretty please?
